Fallen tree in Mountlake Terrace delays light rail service Tuesday night

A tree fell across Sound Transit’s light rail train tracks just north of the Mountlake Terrace Transit Center, causing significant delays on the 1 Line Tuesday night. As of 8 p. m. , the light rail system was powered down between Shoreline North and Lynnwood to ensure crews could safely remove the obstruction. Sound Transit spokesperson Henry Bendon confirmed that inspections would follow before reopening the tracks to service.

In the interim, buses replaced train service, with trains operating every 10 minutes from Shoreline North to Angle Lake. This incident underscores the importance of quick response in maintaining transit safety and minimizing commuter disruption. Sound Transit has faced challenges in recent months with service reliability due to weather-related incidents.
