Edmonds, WALocal News

Ballinger Shakespeare Company (BSC) will debut its free outdoor production of Much Ado About Nothing at Mathay-Ballinger Park in Edmonds, running from July 17-20. Co-founders Joe Wack and Megan Joplin, who are also celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary, aim to foster inclusive and joyful theater for the community. Wack noted the park's summer ambiance, making it an ideal location for the play's themes of outdoor celebrations. Joplin pointed out the limited arts programming in their neighborhood, highlighting the event's local significance. Wack expressed that after years of contemplating this project, the current timing felt right for both personal and community reasons.

The couple aims to create a welcoming environment, utilizing the park's natural beauty to enhance the performance. Their choice of Much Ado About Nothing reflects a desire to present relatable and strong characters while addressing contemporary social themes. Ultimately, BSC seeks to shift perceptions of Shakespeare as inaccessible, inviting newcomers to enjoy the classic work.
