Edmonds council to vote on levy lid lift, police chief confirmation July 8

The Edmonds City Council will convene on July 8 to vote on a $14. 5 million levy lid lift and confirm Loi Dawkins as the new police chief. The council previously voted 5-2 to advance Proposition 1 to the consent agenda, which proposes a property tax of $1. 65 per $1,000 of assessed property value to fund police, parks, and public infrastructure. The measure includes provisions for low-income senior and disabled homeowners.

Dawkins, appointed as Assistant Police Chief in 2022, has 25 years of experience in law enforcement, having previously worked with the King County Sheriff’s Office. Under the proposed agreement, she would assume the chief role on August 1 with an annual salary of $265,890. The council will also discuss the appointment of pro and con committees for the ballot measure. Additionally, the agenda includes updates to zoning codes for neighborhood centers and discussions on a city administrator position. The meeting will be livestreamed and accessible via Zoom, allowing public participation.
