One year after July 3 shooting, community will gather to remember Jayda Johnson

A community remembrance for Jayda Johnson, who was fatally shot at Alderwood Mall in 2024, will occur at Mukilteo Lighthouse Park on July 3 from 7-10 p. m. Jayda's mother, Tabatha Johnson, highlighted the tragedy's impact on the entire community, affecting individuals who did not know Jayda personally. The event will include sharing memories around a bonfire, aimed at fostering a united front against youth violence. The Johnson family is advocating for ongoing discussions about accountability and the necessity of stronger support systems to prevent similar incidents.

The alleged shooter, 17-year-old Samuel Gizaw, is currently in custody and awaiting trial. Jayda's death has raised awareness about youth violence and its broader implications for community safety. Organizers hope the event will inspire attendees to take action in promoting safety and support for young people.
