Edmonds, WALocal News

The Edmonds City Council will hold a public hearing on a proposed $14. 5 million levy lid lift during its meeting on July 1, aimed at alleviating a $13 million budget deficit. If approved, the measure will be on the Nov. 4 ballot and will allocate funds for police, parks, and safe streets improvements. The combined tax rate for the first year would be $1.

63 per thousand of assessed valuation, incorporating both the existing property tax and the new levy lift. Council President Neil Tibbott noted that with inflation adjustments, the levy could rise to approximately $17 million over its six-year lifespan. This permanent, multi-year levy would allow the city to exceed the state limit on property tax increases with voter approval. Other agenda items for the meeting include discussions on residential parking code updates and a project update on the Edmonds Marsh Estuary Planning Study, which focuses on ecological restoration and flood risk reduction. The meeting will take place at 6 p.

m. in the Public Safety Complex and will be streamed live. Citizens can also participate via Zoom or phone.
