Pigeons Are Not Pesty lecture from bird expert at Lynnwood Library July 10

Edmonds, WALocal News

Connie Sidles will present a free lecture, “Pigeons Are Not Pesty: True Heroes of the Avian World,” on July 10 from 2-3:30 p. m. at the Lynnwood Library. The Seattle-based master birder aims to counter negative stereotypes surrounding pigeons, which are often viewed as pests in urban settings. Sidles highlights that scientific research indicates pigeons possess remarkable cognitive abilities and flight skills.

These birds were historically used as carrier pigeons during World Wars I and II, demonstrating their significance in communication. Julia McConnell, a librarian at the Lynnwood Library, noted Sidles's engaging presentations on various bird topics, including crows and owls. Pigeons, initially introduced to North America in the 17th century, are often dismissed as messy creatures. Sidles encourages attendees to arrive early, as her lectures typically attract a full house. She hopes participants will develop a deeper appreciation for these commonly overlooked birds.
