County Council Corner Fostering next generation of environmental stewards with July 12 beach cleanup

Snohomish County will host a Youth Beach Cleanup event at Kayak Point Park on July 12, from 10 a. m. to noon, designed to foster environmental stewardship among youth. Organized by Councilmember Nate Nehring in partnership with the WSU Beach Watchers, the cleanup invites families and individuals of all ages to participate. Volunteers will receive gloves, garbage bags, and light refreshments to keep energized during the event.

WSU Beach Watchers, a volunteer program focused on marine education and environmental stewardship, will guide participants on collecting marine debris and share insights about local ecosystems. The park, known for its scenic shoreline and recreational opportunities, serves as a key location for this community engagement effort. The initiative aims to empower young participants with the knowledge that small actions can lead to significant environmental impacts. By connecting with their community and like-minded peers, youth can develop a lifelong commitment to conservation.
