PAWS takes in dogs displaced by California wildfires

Edmonds, WALocal News

PAWS in Lynnwood welcomed three dogs from Southern California wildfires as part of a flight that relocated over 100 shelter pets to the Pacific Northwest. Coordinated by Greater Good Charities, this initiative aims to relieve pressure on local shelters overwhelmed by increased pet surrenders due to the disaster. Volunteers transported the dogs to the PAWS Companion Animal Center for evaluations and necessary medical care before adoption. Jennifer Convy, senior director of PAWS, emphasized the importance of partnerships in providing second chances for these animals. This flight marks the third effort by Greater Good Charities to aid communities affected by wildfires.

Sára Varsa, executive vice president for Greater Good Charities, highlighted the significant increase in pet surrenders in Los Angeles shelters following the wildfires. Other Washington and Oregon rescues also participated in this relocation effort, enhancing adoption opportunities for pets in need. Local shelters will continue to feel the impact of the disaster, making such initiatives vital for animal welfare.
