Lincoln High School praises new FAFSA application after last years flawed form

Des Moines, IALocal News

Lincoln High School in Des Moines, Iowa, is witnessing a wave of excitement as seniors receive their college acceptance letters, largely thanks to improvements in the FAFSA application process. Students like Emelyna Acosta-Labra and Angela Escobedo-lbarado are thrilled to pursue their long-held ambitions in fields such as pre-med and forensic science, respectively. Last year's FAFSA rollout was fraught with delays and glitches, causing significant stress among students and schools alike. However, the Department of Education has made substantial enhancements this year, resulting in a streamlined application that has reduced the number of questions from over 100 to approximately 40. This simplification has allowed students to complete their applications in just a couple of hours, a marked improvement from previous years.

School counselor Julia Minnehan praised the new process, stating it has been the easiest FAFSA application cycle in school history. The school is also hosting an event on January 23rd to assist families in navigating the FAFSA, ensuring that financial aid is accessible to all students. These positive changes contribute to a more hopeful atmosphere, enabling students to focus on achieving their academic and career goals.
