Recovery group honored after saving man trapped underwater on way to church
A dramatic rescue unfolded in July when a bus carrying members of the Sheepgate recovery program found a car upside down in a ditch, submerged in water. Ken Morrison, the bus driver, and his passengers, trained in helping others, immediately responded to the scene, where they discovered a 74-year-old man trapped inside. After flipping the vehicle back to its rightful position, they pulled the unconscious man out, who soon started breathing again. Morrison described the event as a miracle of God, which resonated with the group’s faith-based mission. Three months later, the Polk County Sheriff's Office honored the rescuers with Lifesaving Awards, where they reunited with the man they saved.
The grateful man, still recovering, attended the ceremony with his wife. The Sheepgate members see their actions as a true sign of faith and hope. The incident highlights the impact of community and the importance of quick action in life-threatening situations.
