Hot meals available to Des Moines families in need on Thursday

Des Moines, IALocal News

On May 21, from 4 to 6 p. m. , the City of Des Moines will offer free hot meals to families in need at Evelyn K. Davis Park, as part of a broader initiative to support residents during the pandemic. The program is a collaboration between the City of Des Moines and organizations such as the Central Iowa Shelter and Services, the Food Bank of Iowa, Urban Dreams, and Orchestrate Hospitality.

This distribution event is the first of several planned for the summer, made possible by a significant allocation of $350,000 in federal relief grant funding aimed at assisting the community. By providing meals, the city addresses the immediate food insecurity many residents are facing due to the economic impacts of COVID-19. Interested families are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to receive nutritious meals. For additional resources and information about ongoing COVID-19 assistance programs, residents can visit DSM. city/assistance.

This initiative not only highlights the importance of community solidarity but also showcases the city's commitment to supporting its most vulnerable citizens during challenging times. As the situation evolves, the City of Des Moines remains focused on fostering a resilient and connected community.
