The mayor's announcement emphasizes the urgency of wearing face coverings in public settings, particularly when social distancing is not possible. Cownie pointed out that the pandemic remains a significant threat, urging residents to remain disciplined in their efforts to combat the virus. The proclamation outlines specific circumstances under which masks are strongly encouraged, including public transportation and indoor locations. To facilitate compliance, the city will begin distributing face coverings to those in need, aided by volunteers and city staff.

Cownie stated, “Wear a mask – it’s the best way to keep businesses open, reduce the spread of the virus and save lives. ” This proactive measure reflects the city’s commitment to public health and safety.
