Pet License Deadline Approaching

Des Moines, IALocal News

The City of Des Moines is urging pet owners to purchase dog and cat licenses before the August 31, 2020 deadline to avoid a substantial late fee of $50 per animal. All cats and dogs six months or older are mandated by City Ordinance to be licensed, with fees set at $15 for spayed or neutered pets and $35 for those not altered. Additionally, discounted rates are offered for residents over the age of 65, making it easier for seniors to comply. Applications are readily available on the City’s website, where pet owners must also provide a current rabies vaccination certificate for each pet. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the closure of City Administration Buildings until at least October 1, 2020, but the City Clerk’s Office remains operational for business during regular hours.

Pet owners can submit their applications and fees through the mail or via a secure drop box at City Hall located at 400 Robert D. Ray Drive. For further assistance, residents are encouraged to contact the City Clerk’s Office. This initiative underscores the City’s commitment to pet safety and responsible ownership.
