Curbside Collection Complete

Des Moines, IALocal News

In response to the devastating derecho that struck Iowa on August 10, 2020, Des Moines has successfully completed a curbside collection of storm debris, significantly aiding residents in their recovery efforts. Starting on August 17, city crews collected more than 9,000 loads of debris over four and a half weeks, demonstrating a robust municipal response to a natural disaster. Public Works Director Jonathan Gano highlighted that while the majority of debris has been collected, work continues on piles that were obstructed by parked vehicles and on remaining city-owned trees needing attention. For residents still dealing with storm debris, a free SCRUB event is set for September 19, providing an additional opportunity to dispose of yard waste at the MWA Compost Center. This initiative exemplifies the city’s dedication to efficient public service and community engagement during challenging times.

The city aims to foster a clean and safe environment for its residents, showcasing its commitment to maintaining high-quality city services.
