The City of Des Moines is set to install flashboards at the Center Street Dam on May 12, 2021, at 7:30 a. m. , contingent on weather conditions. This initiative is crucial for raising the currently low water levels of the Des Moines River, which will enhance recreational activities for boaters and other users of the waterway. Starting the afternoon of May 11, water levels will be lowered for 24 to 36 hours as part of the preparation for this installation.

A dedicated team of city staff, representing multiple departments, has coordinated the timeline for the project, ensuring a smooth operation. The installation process includes adjustments to the outflow at the Saylorville Reservoir dam, allowing city workers to safely install the flashboards. This project highlights the city's commitment to improving local waterways and enhancing recreational opportunities for its residents.
