Flashboards to be Removed from the Des Moines River on April 14

Des Moines, IALocal News

The City of Des Moines has announced the scheduled removal of flashboards from the Center Street Dam on April 14, 2022, at 7:30 a. m. , pending favorable weather conditions. Boaters on the Des Moines River and visitors at Birdland Marina should prepare for lower water levels starting the afternoon of April 13, lasting approximately 24 to 36 hours. To ensure safety during the removal process, adjustments will be made to the outflow at the Saylorville Reservoir dam.

After the flashboards are taken out, the outflow will be modified to elevate the water level by about two feet, restoring normal conditions. In case of inclement weather, the removal work will be rescheduled for April 15. Residents seeking more details can reach out to the Parks and Recreation Director, Benjamin R.
