Des Moines, IALocal News

The City of Des Moines is set to host its first Mega SCRUB event on April 15, 2023, at Merle Hay Mall, a new location that replaces Hoover High School. This event allows residents to dispose of bulk trash, household hazardous waste, and other unwanted items free of charge, highlighting the city's commitment to community cleanliness and environmental safety. Public Works Director Jonathan Gano noted that Mega SCRUBs are among the most anticipated events of the year, with expectations of several hundred vehicles attending. Despite the anticipated crowd, Gano reassured that the lines typically move quickly, ensuring a smooth experience for participants. Residents must provide proof of residency, which can be demonstrated through a photo ID or a current utility bill.

Alongside the Mega SCRUB, the Public Works Department will also host regular SCRUB events at various locations. A comprehensive schedule and guidelines for SCRUB events are available at DSM. city/SCRUB.
