Des Moines Residents Have Another Chance To Pick Up Free Tiny Trees

Des Moines, IALocal News

The City of Des Moines is offering residents another chance to receive free Tiny Trees this Saturday at City Hall, following a well-attended giveaway event last weekend. The pickup will take place from 8 a. m. to noon, or until supplies run out, with the goal of expanding the city’s urban tree canopy. City Forester Shane McQuillan encouraged residents to park their vehicles and walk to City Hall to maintain traffic flow during the event.

No specific tree species will be guaranteed, as the leftover trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. This initiative, part of the Tiny Trees program initiated in 2017, allows residents to contribute to the city’s green spaces at no cost. The program aims to foster community involvement and enhance the local environment. Interested individuals can find more details on the city's Tiny Trees webpage. This effort underscores Des Moines' commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
