Several SCRUB Events Available to Des Moines Residents Saturday

Des Moines, IALocal News

The Des Moines Department of Public Works will conduct free SCRUB events on Saturday, May 20, 2023, providing residents with a convenient opportunity to dispose of difficult waste items. The highlight of the day will be the Mega SCRUB event at Polk County River Place, where an expanded list of accepted items includes hazardous materials, bulk trash, and old appliances. Public Works Director Jonathan Gano noted the success of last month's Mega SCRUB, which attracted hundreds of residents. To manage the expected turnout, residents are advised to arrive early, as there may be wait times. Proof of residency, either through a photo ID or utility bill, is mandatory for participation.

In addition to the Mega SCRUB, residents can also visit the City’s Compost Center for yard waste and the MWA Transfer Station for other bulk trash items. This initiative underscores Des Moines’ commitment to sustainability and maintaining clean neighborhoods. More information, including a full calendar and guidelines, can be accessed at DSM. city/SCRUB.
