The Des Moines Fire Department has partnered with Simulation in Motion-Iowa (SIM-IA) to launch a new mobile medical simulation training truck at Fire Station 11, aimed at improving emergency medical training across Central Iowa. This cutting-edge truck is equipped with a simulated emergency bay, video recording capabilities for analysis and debriefing, and four human patient simulators, providing a comprehensive training environment. Chief John TeKippe of the Des Moines Fire Department highlighted the truck's role in simulating real-world medical situations, which is crucial for enhancing the skills of medical providers. Since launching its first truck in June 2022, SIM-IA has successfully educated over 3,000 individuals across 62 counties, demonstrating the program's significant impact on life-saving care in Iowa. The addition of the Des Moines truck is expected to greatly expand the program's reach and capacity, ensuring that high-quality training is accessible to all communities in the region.

This initiative reflects a growing commitment to improving emergency medical services statewide. The first training sessions using the truck will take place from September 26-28, marking an important step in advancing medical education.
