Last Chance for Free Hazardous Waste Disposal at Saturday's Mega SCRUB

Des Moines, IALocal News

Des Moines residents can take advantage of the final Mega SCRUB event of the year on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 7 a. m. to 1 p. m. at Bell Avenue Business Park.

This event allows for the disposal of household hazardous waste, paper shredding, and bulk trash drop-off, including large appliances and electronics. Public Works Director Jonathan Gano highlights that these Mega SCRUBs occur only four times annually, making this an essential opportunity for residents to declutter while ensuring safe disposal of hazardous materials. Items accepted include oil-based paints, motor oil, batteries, and various cleaners, with strict guidelines to ensure safety and compliance. Residents are reminded to bring proof of residency, such as a photo ID or current utility bill, to participate. The city's Compost Center and MWA Transfer Station will also be available for yard waste and other bulk items.

For more information, residents can visit the city's website, which provides a complete schedule of SCRUB events and guidelines. This initiative reflects Des Moines’ commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
