The City of Des Moines has launched the Ladder Up Social Equity Grant Program, now accepting applications to assist organizations addressing economic disparities in the community. Officially announced on May 10, 2024, the initiative is part of the Bridging the Gap program initiated in 2018, which was shaped by community feedback. Mayor Connie Boesen emphasized the city's commitment to uplifting underrepresented residents through this grant program. A total of $100,000 will be allocated annually from Local Option Sales & Services Tax revenues, with grants ranging from $10,000 to $25,000 for each eligible organization. These grants are intended to support various activities such as upskilling residents, providing small business start-up support, and financial coaching.

Organizations will need to submit a budget that aligns with the goal of achieving equitable outcomes. The application deadline is set for May 31, 2024, and further details can be found on the city’s website.
