Command Sgt. Maj. Bryant Gray was honored with the Meritorious Service Medal for his exceptional leadership of the Soldier Recovery Unit (SRU) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, on December 13, 2024. He managed a team of over 80 military and civilian staff, ensuring the care and recovery of more than 300 Soldiers with a notable 51% return-to-duty rate, the highest within the Medical Readiness Command-East. In her remarks, Lt.

Col. Clarisa Horton, the SRU commander, highlighted Gray's ability to foster a supportive and cohesive organization that prioritized the well-being of Soldiers in recovery. Throughout his tenure, Gray welcomed 294 Soldiers and successfully assisted 350 in transitioning out of the program, with 156 returning to active service. His leadership was marked by his dedication to the Soldiers’ journeys, as he emphasized the importance of healing and personal growth. Gray's commitment also involved developing policies that enhanced recovery programs for Soldiers.

As he prepares to return to the South Carolina National Guard, he looks forward to spending quality time with his family, especially his grandchildren. This recognition not only reflects Gray's individual achievements but also underscores the critical role of the Soldier Recovery Unit in supporting military personnel during their transitions.
