Temperatures Will Plunge By Thanksgiving, Weather Service Says
Chicagoans should prepare for a significant drop in temperatures by Thanksgiving, with highs forecasted near freezing. The National Weather Service predicts a high of 35 degrees on Thursday, well below the average of 43 degrees for the date. Monday and Tuesday will see milder temperatures in the mid to upper-50s, but a cold front will bring a sharp decline by Wednesday, when temperatures may only reach 40 degrees. Meteorologist Todd Kluber noted that the city has experienced temperatures notably above normal this month, in part due to warmer air from the Pacific Ocean. However, the arrival of colder air from Canada and the Arctic is expected to change that.
Kluber also mentioned that this year's Thanksgiving falls on November 27, and the forecasted temperature will be significantly lower than the historical average. Additionally, a recent "cold shot" led to the city's first snowfall on November 9. Kluber emphasized that a persistent winter pattern is establishing itself as the season progresses, suggesting that colder weather may continue into the winter months.
