Donors needed, as blood supply to local hospitals Running on Fumes

Burien, WALocal News

Bloodworks Northwest is facing an urgent need for blood donations as supplies dwindle ahead of the Fourth of July. The organization reports critically low levels of Type O blood, which is essential in trauma situations, with hospital needs rising six percent above average. Currently, only 29% of needed appointments for the holiday week have been booked, resulting in a shortfall of 10,800 open slots. Dr. Kirsten Alcorn highlights concerns over potential shortages during the peak accident season, known as the “100 deadliest days.

” Bloodworks is also prepared to assist in national emergencies through the Blood Emergency Management Corps. To incentivize donations, Bloodworks offers a chance to win tickets to see Taylor Swift at The Eras Tour for those who donate between July 3-6. Donating blood takes about an hour, and each donation can save multiple lives. The organization encourages eligible donors to book appointments and bring friends along to maximize impact.
