Quick action by lifeguards saves child from drowning at Olympic View Swim Club in Normandy Park

On June 20, 2025, lifeguards at the Olympic View Swim Club in Normandy Park rescued a child who was found unresponsive at the bottom of the pool. The incident occurred around 3:22 p. m. , prompting a swift response from King County Fire District 2 and Medic One. Lifeguards discovered the child underwater and initiated CPR after detecting no pulse.

Assistant Chief Ray Desmarais reported that the child regained consciousness and coughed up water within 30 seconds of CPR. EMS arrived to find the child alert and oriented, and they were subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. The fire district commended the lifeguards for their quick actions, which were crucial in saving the child's life. This incident underscores the importance of proper training for pool staff in emergency situations. Such rapid responses can significantly alter outcomes in drowning incidents, highlighting the need for vigilance at recreational facilities.
