Burien, WALocal News

The Environmental Science Center (ESC) will host its second 'BioBlitz' event at Seahurst Park on June 28, 2025, encouraging residents to participate as community scientists. Attendees can explore the park, take photos of local plants and animals, and upload their findings to the iNaturalist app as part of the ESC Seahurst Bioblitz 2025 project. The event will take place from noon to 2 p. m. , with staff available to assist in identifying organisms and discussing local marine life.

Participants do not need prior knowledge, as they can receive assistance from other community members and scientists. For those who cannot attend, the ESC offers an online project for identifying organisms after the event. This initiative helps document species presence and track changes in the local ecosystem over time. The event is funded by the City of Burien and King County 4Culture, highlighting the importance of community engagement in environmental science. By participating, residents contribute valuable data to enhance understanding of the park's biodiversity.
