New Lake to Sound Trail segment opens, connecting Burien and SeaTac to Des Moines Creek Trail
A new segment of the Lake to Sound Trail has opened in South King County, completing two-thirds of its planned 16-mile route from Lake Washington to Puget Sound. This addition connects Burien and SeaTac to the existing Des Moines Creek Trail, offering over seven miles of continuous, non-motorized access. King County Executive Shannon Braddock highlighted the trail’s significance in improving transit access and promoting healthier lifestyles. To minimize environmental impact, the project team installed elevated boardwalks, preserving wetlands and native vegetation. Funding for the initiative was provided by WSDOT, a grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and the King County Parks Levy.
This completed trail will link five cities—Renton, Tukwila, Burien, SeaTac, and Des Moines—and four other regional trails. Mayor Traci Buxton of Des Moines noted the trail's appeal for both residents and visitors, enhancing the area's natural beauty. Recent developments in King County Parks include other trail projects aimed at improving regional connectivity and recreational opportunities.
