WEATHER Heat Advisory issued as temperatures climb into 80s

Burien, WALocal News

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for western Washington, encompassing King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties, effective until 10 p. m. on June 9, 2025. High temperatures are forecasted to reach mid-80s to lower 90s, with Cascade valleys potentially hitting mid-90s, thus increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. The advisory highlights that warm overnight lows in the mid-50s to lower 60s will provide limited relief.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Moreover, cold water temperatures in local lakes and rivers pose a significant drowning risk, as they remain in the upper 40s to 50s. The NWS emphasizes that cold water can drain body heat up to 25 times faster than cold air, increasing the risk of cold shock. Precautions include wearing life jackets near water and rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler times of the day. For cooling centers or assistance, residents can call 211 or visit wa211.
