Burien, Kent, Auburn to host free gun lockbox events this Friday, June 6

Burien, WALocal News

Public Health – Seattle & King County will distribute free gun lockboxes on June 6 across South King County, aiming to address gun violence in the region. Events will take place in Burien, Kent, Auburn, Renton, Federal Way, and Skyway, providing safety education alongside the lockboxes. Eleuthera Lisch, the Director of the Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention, highlighted a 37% decline in gun violence incidents in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the previous year. The initiative promotes secure firearm storage as a preventive measure against both community violence and accidental shootings. Local leaders will participate in events to educate residents on the importance of locking firearms.

Lockboxes will be distributed while supplies last, emphasizing the need for responsible gun ownership. This effort is part of the county’s broader Lock It Up program, which encourages secure storage of firearms at home and in vehicles. More information on the Lock It Up program is available on the Public Health – Seattle & King County website.
