Burien Police Deputy hit by car, injured Monday morning

Early Monday morning, April 10, 2023, Burien Police deputies were dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle blocking Des Moines Memorial Drive South. When approached, the driver, who was unconscious, tried to escape, hitting a Deputy in the process. The vehicle was apprehended shortly thereafter, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident. The Deputy who was struck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. This incident underscores the risks associated with police work, particularly in traffic-related encounters.

The King County MARR unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the event. Previous incidents in the area have raised concerns about driver behavior during traffic stops. Local authorities emphasize the importance of safety for both law enforcement and the public during such encounters.
