Burien, WALocal News

Joseph Hempel, a 46-year-old from Burien, was sentenced to 126 months in federal prison for his involvement in a drug trafficking operation connected to Aryan prison gangs. He was a key supplier under Jesse James Bailey, who leads one of the branches of the Aryan Family/Omerta Drug Trafficking Organization. An extensive wiretap investigation revealed Hempel ordering significant quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl pills, highlighting the extensive reach of his drug distribution. On March 22, 2023, law enforcement coordinated a major takedown that resulted in more than 350 arrests and the seizure of substantial amounts of drugs and firearms. Prosecutors noted the severe effects of Hempel's actions on community crime rates and safety.

Hempel's residence contained a cache of drugs, firearms, and cash, underscoring his involvement in the trafficking operation. His prior criminal history disqualified him from legally possessing firearms, adding to the seriousness of the charges. This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and gangs across the United States.
