Vicky Hartley, who was honored as Burien’s 2023 "Citizen of the Year," passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2025, at the age of 72. Known for her community leadership, Hartley successfully organized efforts to address flooding in Boulevard Park, which greatly affected local residents. She founded the Wednesday Night Supper Club, offering home-cooked meals to unhoused and low-income neighbors, a program that continues in her honor. Hartley was recognized for her unwavering commitment to justice and was nominated for the Sound Generations Inspire Positive Aging Award for Activism in 2025. Her contributions have left a lasting impact on the community, demonstrating her dedication to improving lives.

Vicky’s creativity also shone through her art and unique crafting projects, inspiring many around her. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on June 7, 2025, at Highline United Methodist Church. Hartley's legacy will resonate through her friends and the initiatives she championed in Burien.
