Like playing Crossy Road in real life youth speak out about public transit safety

Burien, WALocal News

King County Metro faces scrutiny as local teenagers report feeling unsafe on buses due to violence and drug use. A recent survey reveals that 64% of riders depend on the transit system for school and work, emphasizing its role for youths without driver’s licenses. One student shared a harrowing experience where the bus had to be evacuated due to a passenger's drug use, reflecting deeper issues within the social safety net. With 1 in 8 riders aged 16 to 24, the safety of young commuters is critical. Community leaders must respond to these alarming reports to create a secure environment for all riders.

By implementing safety measures, officials can enhance public transit safety and encourage youth to utilize the system responsibly. Improving safety protocols could lead to increased ridership and community trust in public transportation. Ultimately, addressing these pressing concerns is vital for the well-being of young passengers.
