Residents petition for traffic control on S. 120th Street in Boulevard Park after horrific car crash through 2 homes

A mid-sized sedan crashed through two homes on South 120th Street in Burien around 2:30 p. m. on May 26, 2025, after failing to stop at a traffic signal. The driver, who suffered minor injuries, lost control at the intersection with Military Road South. In response, local resident Kirk Meeks has launched a Change.

org petition advocating for traffic calming measures, including speed bumps and stop signs, citing a “terrifying pattern of accidents. ” Meeks warned, “We have witnessed a terrifying pattern of accidents, and it’s only a matter of time before another life is lost. ” The City of Burien has acknowledged community concerns and is committed to improving safety on local roadways, as noted by Communications Manager Devin Chicras. The city is actively engaging with residents to prioritize public safety. As of May 29, the petition has garnered 43 signatures, reflecting residents' urgency for action.

Traffic safety measures could significantly reduce the risk of future accidents in the area.
