Highline Public Schools earns clean state audit for 202324 fiscal year

Burien, WALocal News

Highline Public Schools earned a clean audit from the Washington State Auditor’s Office for the 2023–24 fiscal year, confirming its strong financial health. The independent review reported no findings, significant deficiencies, or material weaknesses, highlighting the district's solid fiscal stewardship. Highline Chief Financial Officer Jackie Bryan stated that the audit is a valuable opportunity to refine financial practices. The district has successfully completed all school construction projects over the past two decades on time and within budget, including the new Tyee and Evergreen high schools scheduled to open in fall 2025. An accountability audit by the State Auditor’s Office is still in progress.

Thanks to stable enrollment and prior budget cuts, no additional reductions were needed in preparing the 2025–26 budget. The public can engage in discussions about the proposed budget during a work session on June 12 and a public hearing on June 25. All school board meetings are open to the public, encouraging community participation.
