Marys Place temporarily closes Burien shelter for major redevelopment project

Burien, WALocal News

Mary’s Place has closed its Burien family shelter to commence a two-year redevelopment project in partnership with Mercy Housing Northwest. The new facility, expected to open in mid-2027, will integrate shelter services with affordable housing, aiming to combat family homelessness in South King County. While construction is underway, Mary’s Place will continue to serve families at other shelter locations in Seattle and Bellevue. The project is designed with input from those who have experienced homelessness, ensuring a focus on equity and long-term stability. Larger unit sizes and coordinated services will meet family needs more effectively.

The initiative aims to create a model for sustainable and inclusive support systems. Community members can assist by making in-kind donations at designated locations. For updates, interested individuals can email the organization or visit their website.
