Police pursuit of stolen U-Haul leads to gunfire in SeaTac Tuesday night

Burien, WALocal News

A high-speed chase involving a stolen U-Haul truck culminated in gunfire from Kent Police officers in SeaTac on Tuesday night. The pursuit began around 10:30 p. m. when an officer observed the vehicle on W. Meeker Street.

Despite the use of spike strips to deflate the truck's tires, the 19-year-old Seattle suspect drove into an apartment complex, crashing into multiple obstacles. Officers reported shots fired shortly after the crash, but no injuries occurred. The suspect faces charges for possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding police, with further charges possible as the investigation unfolds. Both officers involved are on administrative leave, following standard procedures after discharging their firearms. Chief Padilla has called for an independent investigation by the Valley Independent Investigation Team to assess the situation.

Such incidents raise significant concerns about police use of force and community safety.
