OBITUARY Former Burien City Councilmember Gordon Shaw has passed away

Gordon MacIver Shaw, a former Burien City Councilmember, passed away on April 1, 2025, at the age of 83. He grew up in Seattle and spent most of his life in Burien, where he was deeply involved in community affairs. A graduate of Highline High School and the University of Washington, Shaw had a successful career in freight forwarding and co-founded a business called Compass Consolidators with his wife, Linda. After retiring, he served on the Burien City Council from 2004 to 2011, focusing on preserving the community's quality of life. Shaw was also active in youth sports, coaching soccer and baseball.

His daughter Jeanne fondly recalled his penchant for lengthy explanations and humor, stating, "If you weren’t careful with your question, a 20-minute explanation might be what you got. " He celebrated a commitment ceremony with Carol A. Dennis in 2019 and continued to reside in Lynden, WA, until his passing. Shaw's legacy includes his commitment to family, community, and a love of baseball, particularly the Seattle Mariners.
