WSDOT announces overnight closures on I-5, SR 516, SR 509 for construction work through Friday, May 2

Burien, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will implement overnight lane and ramp closures on I-5, SR 516, and SR 509 from April 28 through May 2, 2025, affecting Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac, and Kent. These closures are part of the SR 509 Completion Project, which aims to improve highway infrastructure. Lane closures on I-5 will occur between South 200th Street/Military Road South and SR 516, allowing crews to remove concrete barriers. SR 516 will see nightly lane closures for electrical work, while SR 509 will close lanes for barrier installation and road striping. Detours are in place to guide drivers during these closures, which are expected to cause delays.

The project is set to enhance traffic flow and connectivity in the region. The SR 509 Completion Project, part of WSDOT's Puget Sound Gateway Program, is scheduled for completion by 2029. The first stage of the project is expected to open in summer 2025.
