City of Burien reminds residents all fireworks are banned this 4th of July

Burien, WALocal News

Burien's fireworks ban, aimed at reducing fire hazards and trauma, prohibits possession and discharge of fireworks within city limits. Fines start at $500 for the first violation and can escalate to $5,000 for third and subsequent offenses. The ordinance incorporates a "social host" clause, making property owners liable for fireworks discharged on their property. This responsibility extends to property management companies, which must ensure their properties remain fireworks-free. Residents are encouraged to report violations by calling 9-1-1.

The city provides multilingual flyers in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese to promote awareness. Fireworks-related incidents can lead to serious injuries and environmental harm, making this ban crucial for community safety. Burien's proactive measures reflect a growing trend among cities to regulate fireworks for public safety.
