WSDOT to begin construction on SR 509 Expressway Project soon public invited to Online Open House
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is set to begin construction on the SR 509/24th Avenue South to South 188th Street New Expressway project, a significant development for the region. As the final stage of the fully-funded SR 509 Completion Project, this initiative aims to enhance traffic flow and safety by connecting SR 509 with I-5. The new expressway will alleviate congestion, benefiting both commuters and freight traffic while improving access to key locations such as Sea-Tac International Airport. WSDOT is encouraging public involvement through an online open house available until October 25, 2024, where residents can review project plans and provide feedback. The project includes over two miles of new expressway, additional lanes on southbound I-5, and roundabouts to improve traffic flow.
Furthermore, it emphasizes safety with new pedestrian and cyclist pathways. The anticipated completion date is set for 2028, with significant construction milestones already in place. This project is poised to play a critical role in regional transportation planning, promoting economic efficiency and connectivity.
