City of Burien seeking Volunteers and Station Educators for StormFest, coming June 4-6

Burien, WALocal News

The City of Burien is actively seeking volunteers and station educators for StormFest, an engaging festival designed to educate over a thousand 6th-grade students about stormwater management. This year, the festival will occur from June 4-6, 2024, at Des Moines Beach Park, offering a unique, hands-on learning experience. Volunteers will help facilitate various activities, while station educators will co-teach interactive lessons, with a focus on inclusivity through dual-language classes in English and Spanish. Liz Wonder, the sustainability manager, emphasized the event's potential to inspire students and teachers to engage with community solutions for stormwater pollution. The application deadline for interested participants is May 19, 2024, with a training day set for May 29, 2024.

Those selected will receive stipends, lunch, and support for transportation. This initiative not only aims to educate young minds but also seeks to foster the next generation of environmental professionals. By enhancing community involvement, StormFest stands as a model for effective, equitable education.
