City of Burien seeking Volunteers for StormFest event in Des Moines June 10-12

Burien, WALocal News

The City of Burien is actively seeking volunteers and station educators for StormFest, an engaging outdoor learning festival focused on stormwater education for sixth-grade students in Highline Public Schools. This year's event will be held from June 10-12, 2025, at Des Moines Beach Park, where participants will partake in hands-on lessons about local watersheds, pollution prevention, and environmental stewardship. Both general volunteers and station educators are needed, with the latter receiving specialized training and the opportunity to earn stipends of up to $515 for their contributions. A key training session for station educators is scheduled for June 4, 2025, also at Des Moines Beach Park. Liz Wonder, sustainability manager for the City of Burien, shared that StormFest provides a unique opportunity for community members to inspire and educate the next generation about environmental issues.

Volunteers will not only gain valuable experience in outdoor education but also collaborate with peers who share a passion for environmental consciousness. The application deadline is set for May 12, and interested individuals can submit their applications online at burienwa. gov/StormFest. The festival aims to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for students and participants alike, making it a significant community event.
