Bloodworks Northwest emphasizes that fewer than half of the thousand daily donors are booking appointments, creating serious supply issues for local hospitals. This year, the demand for Type O blood and platelets is particularly acute, impacting patient care. While a decline in donations is common during school vacations, the urgency of the current situation has prompted a call for immediate action from both previous and first-time donors. All blood types are needed, with a particular emphasis on Type O, A negative, B negative, and platelets, which are essential for trauma patients.

The donation process is efficient, typically taking less than an hour, and same-day appointments are readily available. Furthermore, Bloodworks is incentivizing donations with a chance to win a vacation for two to Maui for anyone who donates in April, particularly during the critical period from April 13–19. This initiative not only addresses the pressing need for blood but also engages the community in a meaningful way.
