Suspected DUI driver charged after 2 injured in I-5 rollover crash near Southcenter

A serious rollover crash occurred early Saturday morning, December 7, 2024, on northbound I-5 near Southcenter, injuring two drivers. The Washington State Patrol reported that the collision took place at approximately 12:24 a. m. , involving a 2019 Kia Optima and a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. Following the impact, the Silverado overturned, ending up on its side against a guardrail, while the Kia came to a stop partially in the first lane.

Both drivers were promptly transported to Valley Medical Center for medical attention. The driver of the Kia, who was wearing a seatbelt, is now facing charges of driving under the influence and vehicular assault. Investigators confirmed that drugs or alcohol were involved, although the exact cause of the collision remains undetermined. This accident caused significant traffic disruptions, leading to a complete lane blockage for over six hours. The investigation is still ongoing, as authorities gather more details about the incident and its contributing factors.
