Sound Transit Board appoints Goran Sparrman as interim CEO

Burien, WALocal News

The Sound Transit Board of Directors has appointed Goran Sparrman as interim CEO, effective January 13, 2024, following the resignation of Julie Timm. Timm's departure comes as she returns to the East Coast for family reasons. Sparrman brings over 30 years of experience in transportation planning and operations, previously serving as the acting director of the Seattle Department of Transportation. Under his leadership, Sound Transit plans to undertake unprecedented light rail expansions over the next nine months. Board Chair and King County Executive Dow Constantine expressed confidence in Sparrman's ability to guide the agency through this transformative period.

The region's transit system is recognized for its commitment to sustainability, being the first in the nation to operate entirely on carbon-free electricity. Sparrman looks forward to collaborating with Sound Transit professionals to address challenges and celebrate successes. His focus will be on maintaining reliable and safe transit services for the growing urban population in Washington's Pierce, King, and Snohomish counties.
