Burien, WALocal News

The King County Council voted on April 1, 2025, to appoint Shannon Braddock as acting King County Executive, marking a significant milestone as she becomes the first woman in this role. Her appointment follows Dow Constantine's resignation to become CEO of Sound Transit, underscoring a critical transition in county leadership. Councilmembers Reagan Dunn and Sarah Perry both praised Braddock’s extensive local government experience and her ability to serve the community effectively. Since joining the Executive’s Office in 2017, Braddock has held various leadership positions, including Deputy County Executive. She emphasized her dedication to maintaining essential services during this transitional period.

Following the King County Charter, Constantine selected her as his first choice for the interim role through an executive order. The council will later choose a permanent Executive, who could be Braddock or another candidate. This appointment reflects the council's commitment to ensuring capable leadership during a pivotal time for King County.
