Superman-themed bench in honor of Uncle Doug installed in Downtown Burien Wednesday

On April 2, 2025, a heartfelt memorial bench was unveiled in Downtown Burien, dedicated to the late Doug “Uncle Doug” Query. This custom-made bench features a Superman theme, symbolizing his heroic contributions to the community through initiatives like "Team Clean Sweep. " Uncle Doug, who passed away in November 2024, was remembered fondly by Debra George, the Executive Director of Discover Burien and his caregiver for nearly three decades. George articulated her deep sense of loss, stating, “He taught me so much over the years, and was an angel in my life. ” The bench is inscribed with his name, birth and death years, and the touching message “Bye for now,” allowing locals a space to honor his memory.

This tribute not only commemorates Uncle Doug’s life but also encourages community members to reflect on his legacy of kindness and support. Residents are invited to visit the bench at 611 SW 152nd Street to remember and be inspired by his example. Uncle Doug’s dedication to serving others continues to resonate within the Burien community.
