Neighborhood Grants Support Projects By and For Community

Burien, WALocal News

The City of Burien is currently accepting applications for its Neighborhood Grants Program, which aims to empower residents to undertake projects that enhance their communities. Each grant can provide up to $5,000, but applicants must match this amount with local resources, including volunteer labor and donated materials. This initiative not only fosters community engagement but also promotes equitable improvements throughout the city. Projects must be completed by the end of 2024 and meet specific criteria, such as being located within the city limits. Last year, the program supported over 100 trees and shrubs planted in various parks, reflecting its positive impact on local environments.

A Neighborhood Project Coordinator is required for each project to facilitate communication between the City and the neighborhood. Applications will be evaluated on factors like project quality and community participation, ensuring that the most beneficial initiatives receive funding. Access to program information is available in Spanish, Vietnamese, and Amharic, emphasizing inclusivity in community development efforts.
